“Anyone can draw. There is no failure in drawing. Drawing is a personal act. A practice, like taking a shower, everyday we need a new one.

Drawing is returning back to basics, a reset button. It is a place with no judgement. A way to return to the intimate world of childhood, bathing in our own thoughts, ideas and emotions. In an overwhelming and complicated world, Drawing is a moment of simplicity. Outrageous or refined, funny or heartbreaking, drawing is the Netflix of our soul without subscription fees.

A drawing practice can bring magic, freedom and humanity into your life. It can heal, recharge, meditate, research, calculate, plan, remember, empower, communicate, celebrate and stimulate. Drawing is a safe place. No one hacks our notebooks or sells our data. There is no hidden agenda. Our notebooks never run out of battery and we don't need 1000 euros to get a new one. Drawing is an intimate and timeless moment between you and yourself, other people and the universe. It’s yours. ” - Yifat Gat

In this page I explore various ways to approach the question of drawing. Each class is a proposition, based on my own experience in the studio or teaching. I suggest you go through each exercise and try them on like you would in a clothes shop. see what fits you. Make it your own.

Three points about creating a drawing practice

  • Having few pencils in a glass and a notebook or a package of office paper available on your dining room table is a sure way to start. We are here for the long run, even if you wont have a daily practice just having those around will have you drawing without thinking.

  • Drawing is a mixed action. it asks the attention of your hand, brain and eye. It is a second nature, there is no off switch. once you start noticing, lines and composition will be everywhere. let your brain go there. If you have a notebook, draw, If you don’t, save for later. Everything visual is food for the process, with your eyes closed or open, notice. Take in as much details as if you were drawing, even when you are not.

  • The practice is the fix that enable the flow. There is a flow of ideas, old and new. go with the flow. let it go through you. you only need to know what you are doing in retrospective. no need of knowing in advance. have the courage to take leaps, get to know the crossroad of ideas. practice taking the scary option. get to know your creative mechanism.
